Windmills

There are several windmills in Sterling City. During the early part of the 20th century, they were used to pump underground water, but the modern day windmills are now used to generate electricity. A few of them still stand along the rangelands.

The Capricorn Ridge Wind Farm is situated 11 miles northeast of Sterling City, TX. It’s a wind farm that is considered the largest in the U.S. This wind farm is also the first in the United States to use carbon offsets. As a result, it prevents more than 160,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

NextEra’s 47 wind farms have a total capacity of 4,002 megawatts. These windmills have a capacity to provide enough energy for nearly one million households in the U.S. In addition, the facility produces enough clean energy to power Bryan and Greenville.

In addition to the Capricorn Ridge Wind Farm, the Los Vientos wind energy plant supplies energy to Garland and Bryan. The plant also provides energy to the Mars candy company. Several other windmills are scattered throughout the region.

Schools

Schools at Sterling City Services include a variety of options including public schools, private schools, and college. The most popular colleges in the area are Abilene Christian University and Texas Tech University. However, students can also enroll in community colleges.
